Prague Zoo - Troja

Popis: PRAGUE ZOO – TROJA (ZOO PRAHA) Prague Zoo is one of the most beautiful and highly regarded zoological gardens in Europe. It is located in the peaceful district of Troja, near the Vltava River. The zoo officially opened on September 28, 1931. Today, it covers 58 hectares and is home to approximately 6,600 animals representing 692 species (as of December 2025). In 2025, it welcomed almost 1.45 million visitors. One of Prague Zoo's greatest achievements is its contribution to saving the endangered Przewalski's horse, the last surviving truly wild horse. The zoo has played a major role in breeding these horses and returning them to their natural habitats in Mongolia and Kazakhstan. In 1942, Prague Zoo became the first zoo in the world to successfully hand-rear a polar bear cub, named Ilun (Sněhulka). Visitors can admire gorillas, elephants, giraffes, orangutans, tigers, penguins, and many other fascinating animals. VISITOR INFORMATION The zoo features beautiful natural landscapes, modern animal habitats, playgrounds, restaurants, and scenic viewpoints. Visitors can also enjoy a chairlift connecting the lower and upper parts of the zoo, offering wonderful views of the surrounding area. In the 2026 season, a single ride costs 40 CZK for visitors over six years old. My recommendation: Plan at least 4–5 hours, or even a full day, to explore the zoo comfortably. It is an excellent destination for families with children and animal lovers.
