Popis: JOHN LENNON WALL (LENNONOVA ZEĎ) The John Lennon Wall is one of Prague's most famous symbols of freedom, peace, and resistance against Communism. After John Lennon, a member of The Beatles, was murdered in New York on December 8, 1980, people began painting his portrait, messages of peace, and song lyrics on this wall. During the Communist regime (1948–1989), young people used the wall to express their desire for freedom and democracy. The Communist authorities repeatedly painted over the graffiti, but people continued to return and create new messages. The wall became a symbol of peaceful resistance against oppression. After the Velvet Revolution in 1989, it remained a place for artistic expression and messages of love and peace. The wall belongs to the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and was officially designated a memorial site in 2019. Today, visitors can leave messages in designated areas using pencils, markers, or chalk. Spray painting is prohibited. The wall is constantly changing, making every visit a unique experience.
