Břevnov Monastery

Popis: Břevnov Monastery (officially the Benedictine Archabbey of St. Adalbert and St. Margaret) is the oldest male monastery in the Czech Republic. Foundation: It was founded in 993 by Duke Boleslaus II and Saint Adalbert, the Bishop of Prague. Architecture: The current look is a masterpiece of the High Baroque style from the first half of the 18th century, designed by the famous architects Christoph and Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. Main Landmark: The grand Church of St. Margaret, complemented by the convent and the prelate's residence. Gardens: The complex includes a beautiful, freely accessible garden featuring the Vojtěška pavilion, built over a natural spring where the founders allegedly met. Brewing Tradition: It is home to the Břevnov Monastery Brewery, which connects to the oldest documented beer brewing tradition in the country. Today, the monastery serves its original purpose as a home to a Benedictine community while being a peaceful historical oasis in Prague.
