Petřín Lookout Tower

Prague Map Tour for the Deaf Community

Petřín Lookout Tower

Popis: Petřín Lookout Tower (Petřínská rozhledna) is one of Prague’s most iconic landmarks, offering some of the best panoramic views of the city. Inspiration & History: Built in 1891 for the Jubilee Exhibition, it was freely inspired by the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, which members of the Czech Tourists Club had visited a couple of years prior. Height & Location: The tower itself is 58.7 meters (193 feet) tall. However, because it sits on top of Petřín Hill, its tip is at roughly the same altitude above sea level as the actual Eiffel Tower. Getting to the Top: To reach the observation deck, you can climb 299 steps winding up a double spiral staircase (one side for going up, the other for coming down). An elevator is also available. The View: On a clear day, the tower provides a stunning 360-degree view of Prague and allows you to see far into the Czech countryside, including Mount Říp or the Krkonoše Mountains. Surroundings: Petřín Hill, which can be reached via a historic funicular railway, is also home to a popular Mirror Maze, a beautiful Rose Garden, Štefánik Observatory, and the medieval Hunger Wall.
