Popis: SPANISH SYNAGOGUE (ŠPANĚLSKÁ SYNAGOGA) The Spanish Synagogue stands on the site of what was probably Prague's oldest synagogue, known as the Old School (Stará škola). Built in 1868, it is the youngest synagogue in Prague's historic Jewish Quarter. In 1935, an additional building was constructed next to the synagogue, which served as a hospital until World War II. From the 1970s, the synagogue gradually fell into disrepair and was eventually closed in 1982. Restoration work could only begin after the Velvet Revolution in 1989. The synagogue was extensively renovated during the 1990s and officially reopened to the public in 1998. Today, the Spanish Synagogue is famous for its magnificent Moorish Revival architecture, inspired by Islamic art and architecture in Spain. Its richly decorated interior, with golden ornaments, colourful patterns, and stained-glass windows, makes it one of Prague's most beautiful synagogues. It is now part of the Jewish Museum in Prague.
